New Year, Improved Me.

Happy New Year Everyone, welcome to Your New Beginning.

If you haven’t done so already spend the day (before you return to the hustle and bustle of life) to plan your year. Planning helps you focus on what is important and what you wish to achieve in the next 12 months. 2017 signifies so many different things to different people, to some it won’t be any different to 2016, but for me…

  • 2017 is the year that I turn 29.
  • 2017 is the year I will start my YouTube Channel.
  • 2017 is the year where I will travel and see more of the world.
  • 2017 is the year that I WILL lose the desired amount of weight.
  • 2017 is the year that I WILL be elevated at work and in my business endeavours.
  • 2017 is the year that I will learn to swim.
  • 2017 is the year that I will collaborate and network.
  • 2017 is the year that I will become fluent in Yoruba…

You see writing these goals down makes them more real and the fact that I have chosen to share these goals on my blog holds me accountable. We all want to be a man or woman of our word! So whether I like it or not giving up this year really isn’t an option.

I remember I wrote on the 27th December 2015 that I would not rush, I would not be influenced by anyone and I would Do Me! I specifically declared that I would take time out for myself in 2016 and that I would not entertain anyone. Check out my post about Jack to hear more about that and about whether friendship has become the consolation prize for a potential relationship.  I really did not want to worry about life in 2016 and that is why I learnt to surrender, I let go of the things that I could not control.

I love that as I’m growing older, new traditions are being formed. One that I established on New Years Eve 2016, was having breakfast with friends and discussing what we had faith would happen in 2017. As friends, we sat and laughed at the mistakes of 2016 and smiled at the beautiful adventures we were yet to embark on. Each of us had to find at least one scripture in which we would base 2017 upon. As it is literally only a few days into 2017, I won’t share this years scriptures (there is a time to share and a time to sit and wait) but I will share the scriptures that I based 2016 upon.

Hebrews 6:13-15 which paraphrased is “and so it was that she, having waited long and endured patiently, realised and obtained what God had promised…”

Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

I am really grateful that whilst I don’t consider that I have made it in life, I have found peace in my current season. This happens to be my season of waiting and knowing that has made me content. I have to learn to be diligent where I am before I can handle further responsibility. The worst thing I could do is consider that I am ready and then get to a place/position that I have always dreamt of and ruin it due to my lack of knowledge or skill set.

Therefore it is important to split your goals into Macro and Micro goals:

  • Macro Goalsthe BIG goals that you wish to accomplish someday (these are what I put on my vision board).
  • Micro Goalsthe SMALLER goals that you wish to achieve daily to help you make your dream a reality i.e. learn a new language so that your business can be known beyond your current environment.

You must be motivated in order to achieve your goals, hence why you have to set your own goals. You can be inspired by others but make sure the dream is yours and not your family or friends.

  • Do you know why you want to be married?
  • Why do you want to lose weight?
  • Why do you want to have your own business?

Goal setting should NOT be based on fantasy, for example the media shows the rich and famous living the high life but that should not be your motivation for wanting to be a millionaire. Its superficial and lacks depth, it’s a fantasy that inevitably will be difficult to achieve. There will be minor setbacks and frustrating times but that should not be an excuse to skip your new habits that your forming in order to reach your goals.

I am really hopeful that this year we will all make the desired progress needed to get closer to walking in our purpose. It won’t be easy but as we all know anything worth having is worth fighting for.
